'American High' Producer Is 'Going to College' After following high-school kids around for a year, R.J. Cutler is entering the realm of higher education.
Cutler, who executive produced "American High," is headed to the University of Texas at Austin for his next project, "Going to College." The 10-episode series is scheduled to premiere on Showtime in September. UT gave its blessing for Cutler's crews to follow 12 freshmen at the huge school around the clock as they adjust to classes, roommates and having full responsibility for their own lives. The diverse group of students will include some who can't wait to break free from parental and other constraints and others apprehensive about leaving home.
Cutler won an Emmy for "American High," which aired briefly on FOX in fall 2000 and was later picked up for a full run by PBS. He's also executive producing an unscripted series for ABC that chronicles Roseanne Barr's life as she prepares a new show for ABC Family.
Another Cutler project, "American Candidate," was recently scrapped by FX. It would have attempted to present a regular Joe or Jane as a candidate for president in 2004, but FX believed it would have been too expensive to produce. His other credits include the political documentaries "The War Room" and "A Perfect Candidate." Related Story
